What is priority registration?
Priority registration is designated specifically for students who enroll in SBCC for the purpose of degree or certificate attainment, transfer to a four-year college or university, or career advancement. Students who have completed orientation and assessment, developed an education plan, declared a major, and maintained good academic standing will be granted higher priority for registration.
Admissions & Records notifies students of their registration dates by posting the date and time in the student’s Pipeline account 2 weeks prior to the start of Priority Registration. Specific dates and times are determined by: Student Type (Continuing, New, Returning, etc.), Educational Goal, Support Programs (DSPS, EOPS, Foster Youth, Veterans, CalWorks), Academic Standing, and completed course units (0-99).

**Loss of enrollment priority shall occur at the first registration opportunity after a student:
- Is placed on academic or progress probation or any combination thereof as defined in BP and AP 4250 titled Probation for two consecutive terms; or
- Has earned one hundred (100) or more degree-applicable semester units at the District
Frequently Asked Questions
Priority registration is lost when you have been on academic and/or progress probation for two consecutive semesters, or when you accrue more than 100 completed units of degree applicable coursework – accumulated from SBCC only (In progress units ARE included).
If you've submitted an SBCC application, you should have access to your Pipeline account where you can view your registration date. To check your specific registration date and time you log in to Pipeline > click on student > registration > check pre-registration requirements and registration appointment.
A student is placed on academic probation when they have attempted at least 12 semester units and earn a cumulative GPA of less than 2.0. Priority registration is lost when a student earns a cumulative GPA below 2.0 for two consecutive semesters.
Students who accumulate more than 100 degree applicable units, including in-progress units, will lose priority registration. This is a law which all community colleges in California must follow
Yes. Academic probation and unit limits will be applied to all student groups, including Veterans, DSPS, EOPS, CalWorks (Foster Youth exempt).
No. Academic probation does not begin until you have completed 12 units of credit.
No. Only degree applicable units earned at SBCC count toward the 100 unit limitation. Degree applicable units are courses at SBCC numbered 100 or higher.
No. Units from courses taken at another college are NOT counted toward the 100 unit limit. Only degree applicable units earned at SBCC are counted toward the 100 unit limit.
No. The 100 unit limit applies only to the units you have earned. Withdrawals ('W') and incompletes ('I') will not count toward the 100 units.
Yes. Units in progress, the classes you are currently taking, are counted in the total.

An appeals process is available for all students who lose enrollment priority due to extenuating circumstances that can be verified (accidents, illness, or other circumstances beyond the student’s control), or who are in a verifiable high unit major.
A student may appeal the loss of priority enrollment due to extenuating circumstances, or where a student with a disability applied for but did not receive reasonable accommodation in a timely manner. Extenuating circumstances are verified cases of accident, illnesses or other circumstances beyond the control of the student. In addition the college may exempt and consider high unit majors.
